5 Tips to Stay Fit During the Winter

Challenge Healthy Choices Holidays

Winter brings a unique set of challenges in your quest to transform your body. The cold temperatures and inclement weather can disrupt your routines and make you want to curl up on your couch instead.

But, if you allow yourself to do that, you can reverse all the hard work you’ve put in so far. These tips can keep you active during the winter and on track to reaching your goals.

1. Layer Up

If you’re someone who loves to exercise outdoors, winter doesn’t have to stop you. Instead, layer up with warm clothes that allow you to continue your routines while staying warm. A hat, gloves, warm pants, and a light but warm jacket can keep you moving outdoors no matter what the forecast has in store.

2. Get Creative

While your normal routines may not be possible during the winter months, you can still find places to get your exercise in. Perhaps you can walk around the mall, sign up for a dance class, or find a place to do some indoor swimming. The point is to get yourself moving and keep your goals on track.

3. Exercise with a Friend

Having someone to hold you accountable can help keep you on track during the winter months. The cold weather might make staying indoors enticing, but an exercise partner can keep you and your goals on track–even when you’re lacking the motivation.

4. Be Intentional

In order to maintain a healthy, productive exercise routine, you must plan for it. Intentionally setting aside time each day to get even twenty minutes of exercise in, is half the battle. Then, stick to it and exercise in the time you’ve planned. This way, the hustle and bustle of the winter holidays might become an excuse to avoid your exercise routines. But, unfortunately, this only sets you back in your goals. So, plan the time and get moving to move forward in your body transformation goals.

5. Get Adventurous

The winter months provide opportunities to get outdoors and excerise in new ways. Winter sports like skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and even sledding can help you get your exercise in, and work your muscles in a new adventurous way. So, if you are able, make it a point to get outside and try something new this winter.
