New Year, New You: Tips to Stick with Your Health Goals in 2020

Resolutions. We hear stories over and over again of failed attempts at resolutions. But, for you, this year is different. You want to make changes for yourself this year. These changes will impact your health, your wellness, and your overall quality of life. So, how do you make this year different and stick with your health goals in 2020 to transform into a new YOU?

  1. Make a Plan: We often dream up perfect plans to improve our health, but, too often, they remain mere dreams. Life gets in the way and our best-dreamed plans fall to the wayside.

Avoid this pitfall by putting your goal in writing and scheduling the time to fit in your wellness goal each day. If it’s not on the calendar, it likely won’t get done. Therefore, writing out your plan is essential to reaching your health goals in 2020.
  1. Be Consistent: While it is necessary to give your body time to rest, taking multiple days off during the week can be a surefire way to derail all of your efforts. Taking full days off minimizes the importance of your goals.

Instead, incorporate time to focus on your overall well-being on the days you don’t engage in a full workout. This time can include focusing on mindful eating, meditation, or getting outdoors to try a fun, new activity.

Whatever you decide to do, planning time each day to do something that will ultimately help you reach your health goals keeps your wellness a priority.
  2. Prioritize Yourself: Speaking of your wellness being a priority, too often our responsibilities and obligations seem to create a constant battle between our reality and our goals. Therefore, you must be extra vigilant to keep your health goals a priority.

Life will get busy, you will become overwhelmed, and you will face stressors that challenge your ability to maintain your workout routines. It is at these times that you must prioritize yourself to keep your health goals on track.
  1. Keep It Interesting: Another goal buster is boredom. If you allow yourself to workout on autopilot, you will lose the motivation to reach your goals. Keep your workouts and routines interesting by mixing it up. Challenge yourself periodically by trying something new. The variety in your workouts will ensure you have fun while working hard to transform your body.
